Why we build small

Every year or so, someone asks us why we don't scale. The answer isn't philosophical — it's operational. Beyond about forty homes, a developer stops being the person who chose the tapware and starts being the person who chose the contractor who chose the tapware.

We like being the first person in that chain. It keeps us honest to the residents who will one day live in what we've drawn, and it keeps the drawings honest too.
